Relationship Marketing 101

This page will show you exactly what “Relationship Marketing” is. I’ll also guide you through exactly how to get started with relationship marketing for your own business

I’m Travis DeRose, creator of DeliverWorthy. If you’re looking to turn your customers into raving fans, you’ve come to the right place! My mantra is all about helping businesses and influencers connect with their audience, customers, and potential customers.

What is Relationship Marketing?

The Definition

This is what I’ve discovered most business owners, entrepreneurs, and influencers dream about:

Loyal customers who absolutely love them and their product or service. In addition, they crave an audience who brags to their friends and family about them non-stop.

In other words, we create Raving Fans!

Relationship marketing is the “holy grail” for businesses. It produces raving fans who purchase regularly and tell everyone about you. That’s what I focus on and that’s what I’m going to teach you to do.

How It Works

An Overview of Relationship Marketing

Here is the simplified startegy to relationship marketing:

1) Create awesome content your audience will love

We’re talking fun, interesting, helpful content. And content includes things like articles, social media posts, photos, videos, and podcasts.

2) Deliver that content to your audience regularly

This puts you in front of your audience often. That way when they do need your product or service, they think of you immediately. Having that position in the mind of consumers is so valuable!

If you can do this, you’re ahead of 85% of the other businesses out there. It’s tough to consistently create and deliver content. But don’t worry, I’ll be here to help you along with tools, techniques, and tips to make it easier and more efficient.

3) Be a Human

This is the most important. Be there for your audience to answer any questions they have. Respond to their comments and emails. Like their facebook updates. Rest assured, I’ll help you streamline this process too 👍🏼

Relationship Marketing Essential #1

Content Creation

Your entire relationship marketing strategy hinges on creating wonderful content. There are 3 main types of content I like to think of:

1) Helpful Industry Related Content

This is content that is related to the industry you’re in. It should be helpful for consumers and not directly sell or mention your products or services. This content will also make you look like an expert in your field. (example: a mechanic could have an article called “4 Things to Ask Your Mechanic Before They Start Any Work on Your Car”)

2) Promotional/Sales Material

This is content that mentions your product or service. Maybe offer a coupon or upcoming sale. This type of content is the rarest form you should create. About 5% of the content you create should be promotional material.

3) Fun Articles

Think of this as content you would send to a friend. It’s interesting, funny, cool, or helpful. These are generally not even related to your industry. The objective is to build a friendship with your customers and keep the conversation going.

Jumpstart your Relationship Marketing With Free Articles

Writing content consistently is the hardest part of relationship marketing. So to help fill in the gaps, I’ve written dozens of articles for you to copy & paste. You can use them as your own, you can edit them, and you can even say you are the author.

Relationship Marketing Essential #2

Email Marketing

Email marketing offers the most bang for your buck! That’s why I recommend people start with email as their first content delivery method. Email gets delivered right to your customers inbox where they’re going to see it. Plus, email is practically free to send.

Email Service Providers

Tools to Email Articles to Your Customers

MailChimp is a great option because they are Free up to 2,000 subscribers. So if you’re looking to just get your feet wet, MailChimp is probably your best bet.

The only thing about MailChimp is that I find it a bit cumbersome and confusing.

ActiveCampaign is my go to email service provider. I’ve used a lot of other ones and they provide the best mix of features with ease-of-use. Their platform can do anything you’d ever want it to do but at the same time it’s intuitive and the user interface is awesome!

ConvertKit is extremely user friendly and has loads of features. You’ll be able to continue to use ConvertKit even if your email list gets very large. It has the capacity to handle large complex tasks while still being easy to use.

Relationship Marketing Essential #3

Social Media Marketing

Social media is where your customers are. It’s where they hang out and share their thoughts, opinions, and life. You need to be there to be a part of that with them. It might seem daunting but I’ll be here to guide you along the way and show you what works best in the vast world of social media.

Automate it

Social Media Schedulers

I don’t personally use HootSuite but I’ve heard good things. It allows you to automate and schedule your social media posts.

I personally use Meet Edgar for all of my social media posting. The reason I choose Edgar is because it allows you to recycle content easily. The vast majority of your followers are going to miss your posts so Edgar makes it easier to share them again. Highly recommended! Works for Facebook, LinkedIn, & Twitter.

Buffer is another social media scheduler. I also haven’t used this one but reviews are positive and it seems like a good option.
